Meet Carla Veldman!

Kia Ora Koutou,
My name is Carla Veldman and I am the proud Deputy Principal of Whenuapai School.  I love my job and feel very privileged to work with such a collegial and talented staff, dedicated parents and beautiful children.

I have had the pleasure of teaching many year levels and across a variety of schools in Auckland.  I have also taught overseas in North Carolina, USA for a few years.  I am particularly passionate about Literacy and strengthening home-school partnerships. This year I am lucky to be supporting the Junior School Team in literacy, new enrolments and Transitioning to School.
Currently part of my literacy support role includes supporting a group of our at risk students in literacy in a programme called ‘Quick 60’. Please click here if you would like further information on Quick 60.

Another focus I am supporting in our junior school area is around transitioning to school. The team leader, Rachel Capizzi and myself are reviewing our current transition to school processes and inquiring into how we can strengthen these so that our parents feel informed and welcomed into the new school community at Whenuapai School and our new students have a positive, successful and connected start to school. To support us with this process we are meeting with all the local kindergarten and child care centre managers and working together on transitioning. We value parent/whanau input and if you have thoughts/ideas towards our inquiry please do let us know.

Here’s to another great year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family further in 2017.
